Eddie Kidd for me growing up was the English equivalent to Americas Evil Knievel, a pretty poster boy who was also a stunt rider. I remember seeing his pictures in the girl magazines which were around at the time. Eddie even made a film called Riding High in 1981 in which he played, yes you guessed it a motorbike stunt rider, he also released a single called Heavy Metal from the film.

So it really was inevitable that he would make a record or two, this album Just For The Record I think was released through his fan club and was produced by Mott´s Nigel Benjamin who also plays on the album as does his band Assassin.

There was one single taken from the album called Leave It To The Kid which is a bit of a Glam stomper and was a Tony Blackburn record of the week and was released on the Decca label. Eddie appeared on the TV show Revolver which was hosted by the comedian Peter Cook. There was also another single Black Leather Silver Chrome released in ´78 which wasn’t on the album.

The rest of the album to be honest is not that good, there is a weak cover of Stand By Me and the rest album has no credits to who wrote the other original songs! The best track on the album is The Power with Leave It To The Kid coming a close second. An interesting release if only for the Mott connections (that’s why I bought the album myself).

Eddie did go on to record again in the 80´s releasing a couple of singles Fire Me Up featured here and Don´t Let The Day Get Any Longer.

Eddie Kidd 2011

Since his well documented crash in 1996 which left him paralyzed and brain damaged. Eddie pops up now and again in the news and still looks great, most recently he courageously did the London Marathon which took him 43 days, just amazing well done Eddie, he raised seventy five thousand pounds for charities.
