End Of Year Review 2011

My Favourite Albums 2011

This year has been a bumper year of 80´s artists releasing new material and what a crop of exciting music we have had.

My favourite album has to be John Foxx and the Maps (also my most played album)

I was also excited to see the original Cars reform and release such a good album even without the late Benjamin Orr.

The Late Poly Styrene produced a pure no nonsence pop album which is just popdelicious.

Thomas Dolby released his first album in 20 Years which is excellent.( although I have not played the video game!!) and Nothing New Under The Sun should have been a single.

Fab to see Magazine get back together for their album No Thyself which also features my favourite album sleeve of the year.

Blanmange are stilll Blancmange -thank goodness-Blanc Burn is excellent.

Honorable mention to older rock chick´s Debbie Harry and Blondie along with Marrianne Fathful both producing fine albums this year.

Luke Haines has produced an album which has titles, I Am Catweazel, Gorgeous George and Haystack´s In Heaven– how could you not be of a certain age and not want to listen to this- me I am and I  love it.

Who else out there is like Kate Bush?,  50 Words For Snow is divine and features an excellent duet with Elton John on the track Snowed In At The Wheele. I almost felt guilty listening to this on the beach over the xmas period.

Albums by more contemporary artists have also caught my attention this year, loving Kasabien´s offering, Elbow, with the sublime Build A Rocket Boys. The Stokes new wave sounding Angels and Noel Gallaghers solo effort really surprised me on the quality of his songs, I´ve even fallen under the spell that is Adele.
