Here is my rip of the classic Henry Badowski album Life Is A Grand.

I bought this from a bargain bin in Nottingham in a little record shop just down from Rob´s Records in Hurts Yard (it´s not there anymore) I also bought his singles from there…loved that shop!

I bought it because I thought Henry looked like Bryan Ferry on the cover and the title sounded glamorous. I wasn´t dissapointed I still love the album sounding like Eno Taking Tiger Mountain era crossed with a little bit of Berin Bowie.

The album featured the singles, My Face– which was released twice once on the IRS label and secondly with A&M,(twice) both with different sleeves  b-sides – This Was Meant To Be and Henry’s In Love.

My favorite tracks from the album are Life Is Grand, Rampant –which are both instrumentals-(Rampant is just gorgeous) Swimming With The Fish In The Sea, Baby Sign Here With Me , Anywhere Else in fact there is not a track that I don´t like, a superb synthpop album.

Henry Badowski also known as Henry Daze when he was bass player with punk band Chelsea, released just the one solo album.

Henry has also played with Alternative TV,The Good Missionaries, Wreckless Eric, The Doomed and King along with Captain Sensible.

There was another single prior to the albums release called Making Love With My Wife/Baby Sign Here With Me again released twice on two different labels, Deptford Fun City and A&M. Only Baby Sign Here With Me was on the album. Making Love With My Wife did appear on a compilation album called Machines along with tracks by John Foxx, Gary Numan ,Thomas Leer and other popular artists of the early 80´s. There are a couple of non album b-side which I thought need to be out there especiallyy Lamb To The Slaughter which is very Enoesque and Four More Seasons which is an instrumental track.

King lasted for two weeks from June 1978 – August 1978 and played five gigs  before splitting.   They didn’t get to record as far as I know but they did do one John Peel session, they sounded great even though this recording is far from perfect it´s well worth a listen.

Thanks so much for the album – kinda reminds me of Eno producing Syd Barrett. Or maybe Kevin Ayers backed by OMD? Anyway, wish I’d known about this back in the ’80s. Could you repost the singles collection, pretty please?
